Another story that is also about art, animals and kings, is the story of the elephant Salomao . Who was also a gift from a Portuguese King D.joao III to his cousin Archduke Maximilian of Austria. History that was made famous in the book of Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago “The Trip of the Elephant”.
As the history of the Durer´s rhino, this animal didn´t had great luck with the trip, because past two or three years to be delivered after a long journey, salomao not getting along with the environment died.
Their front paws served as a cloakroom at the entrance of the palace and their bones were used to make a throne, which in turn is a pretty nice seat which is now in a museum in Lisbon.
